Team Selection 2021: Update from Jeb Boyd & Emily Lovett

PSIA-AASI Team Selection 2021 is officially on-snow at Breckenridge, Colorado. In this new First Chair podcast, PSIA-AASI National Team Head Coach Jeb Boyd previews what the alpine and snowboard candidates are doing on the slopes today.

The adaptive, cross country, and telemark candidates will arrive tonight and start their own on-snow selection process tomorrow.

On the eve of the cross country on-snow kickoff, PSIA Cross Country Team Coach Emily Lovett talks about her high expectations for the candidates, and how she expects them to help lead PSIA-AASI into the future.

Why are you excited to finally have Team Selection underway?

I’m excited to spend time with our selection candidates in-person at selection. Team coaches have been interacting with candidates for over a year now. These are very talented, skilled, and dynamic skiers who I am excited to learn more about.

I’m also excited about the formation of the new national team using the ONEteam concept. The new team will take the Learning Connection and fundamentals the 2016-21 team created to our divisions and membership to support our community and help enhance snowsports learning experiences. I’m looking forward to the collaboration this team will have with each other, divisional leadership, and ultimately our membership.

What do you feel is special/unique about the candidates you have for this particular team?

I believe the candidates understand the power of a connected team and know this is a huge part of being on the PSIA-AASI National Team. I feel each candidate has their own unique traits, are multi-discipline skiers and riders, amazing clinicians, creative thinkers, communicators, and unifiers. The ONEteam concept will serve as a foundation to support all the unique traits to flourish and connect the dots for excellent teamwork.

How do you hope/expect this team to impact and inform future PSIA-AASI instruction?

This new team is tasked with working alongside divisional leaders to help educate our membership on the new certification standards. Rooted in the Learning Connection and fundamentals for Technical skills, Teaching skills and People skills, these new standards create a common foundation for all disciplines and create clarity, consistency, and enhanced quality of snowsports education to speak directly to our mission to create lifelong adventures through education.
