National Team 2021-24: Meet Tony Macri

Tony Macri is a member of the 2021-24 PSIA-AASI National Team where he will help set the standard for snowsports instruction. PSIA-AASI hand-selected the 37 team members – 8 coaches and 29 team members – for their range of skills that allow them to serve as inspirational leaders and build enthusiasm for learning and having fun skiing and riding.

Where is your home mountain?

Copper Mountain, Colorado

What other occupations are you involved in?

Chef Executive Officer and Owner of Snow Trainers LTD.

Describe a teaching or learning experience that sticks out in your mind.

I would say the first time teaching in China. No one in my group spoke English, so we made the lesson extra fun and engaging to keep everyone’s attention and for our students to understand the exercises.

What are your specialties as a team member?

Snowboard Assistant and Development Coach. I’m also involved in freestyle as the chair of the Freestyle Task Force and co-author of the Freestyle Manual, and I’m assisting with the updated snowboard certification process.

Any relevant certifications?

PSIA-AASI certified Snowboard Level III and Alpine Level III with Children’s Specialist 2 and Freestyle Specialist 1 credentials. Two-time SBINZ National Team Member (Snowboard Instructor of New Zealand).

Is there anything we missed asking?

Most importantly I love to meet and engage with people all over the world about how we can continue to grow our sport.

Who is your greatest inspiration as an instructor?

I am always inspired instructors who are trying their hardest to make teaching snowboarding a career. From the first year instructor to the ones who have been doing it forever.

Best part of teaching?

The best part of teaching is I get to meet so many different people with various goals that come from various backgrounds. Then to get the opportunity to help them achieve their goals.

What’s your favorite run at your home mountain?

Peace Park, Woodward Central Park, and the Super Pipe.
