New Certification Standards & Performance Guides Now Available

PSIA-AASI’s new Certification Standards and Performance Guides provide a clear and consistent path to certification so you can achieve your professional goals, and they’re now available on thesnowpros.org.

What started as a dream among the founders of PSIA (now PSIA-AASI) 60 years ago has guided the association’s leaders ever since,” said Dave Schuiling, PSIA-AASI Director of Education. “Developing a distinctly American approach to ski and snowboard instruction has seen countless successes over the years – and, this season, PSIA-AASI is beginning to implement the long-sought goal of nationwide consistency in assessing instructors with a strategically aligned certification process.”

PSIA-AASI’s Certification Standards help you learn how to apply the fundamentals of great skiing or snowboarding and effective teaching so you can become a great instructor.

PSIA-AASI certifications represent a standard of consistent competency in three zones: beginner/novice, intermediate, and advanced/expert. Earning a PSIA-AASI certification validates your training from the world’s top snowsports education association and affirms you’re a professional in the snowsports industry.

Envisioned as a three-phase process of standards adoption, training, integration, implementation, and quality assurance and enhancement built around PSIA-AASI’s Learning Connection, the new approach to certification promises to assure a better, more consistent process for candidates, examiners, and trainers.

“With the adoption of new certification standards for alpine, cross country, and snowboard instructors – as well as Children’s Specialist 1 and 2 standards – we’re embarking on a certification system that bonds all sliding sports with a unified message of consistency,” said Dave. “One that uses the same outcomes, assessment tools, and assessment resources and a consistent way to measure all components of the system.”
