Zeke Fashingbauer’s Goals for the Season

Goals: I’m examining my people skills to develop more self-awareness about I how communicate. Specifically, I’m focusing on how I deliver information to positively impact my students. We often know what to say, but how we say it is just as important. Our delivery increases listening and retention.

My Goal Plan: My goal is to fine-tune my self-awareness. By synthesizing the principles of movement analysis (MA) with people skills, I can more objectively reflect on how I connect with and deliver information to my students. The key to analyzing people skills, much like MA, is to observe, describe, and prescribe. By observing a situation and objectively reflecting on what behaviors I observed and what impact they had, I hope to advance my people and communication skills.

Resources to Use: People skills can feel a bit fuzzy. I’ve found that the more I participate in people-skills webinars and in-person training, the more comfortable I am with drawing on my movement analysis skills and applying these same concepts to how I work with my students. I’m also eager to lead clinics and events that focus on people skills. Teaching deepens my understanding of subject matter and helps me identify questions and quandaries I may have overlooked. A student asking me a question I can’t answer gets my wheels turning; I always enjoy the additional insight.

How You Can Use this Plan: People skills have a universal application across all social endeavors. My continued study of self-awareness has already benefited my career, my family life, and my happiness. When we accurately express ourselves, our impact is more profound.
