PSIA-AASI National Academies attendees packed the Yellowstone Conference Center at Big Sky, Montana, Wednesday night, April 17, ringing the room with cheers, warm memories, and several standing ovations as they honored some of the true pioneers and rising stars of U.S. ski and snowboard instruction.
Tom Gabriesle went to his first PSIA National Academy when it was held in Snowbird, Utah, in 1992. Since then, other than a break for Covid and a brief hiccup in the mid-1990s, he hasn’t missed the event in 30 years.
PSIA-AASI’s largest national event of the year kicked off Monday, April 15, at Montana’s Big Sky Resort. The annual, weeklong gathering provides an opportunity for instructors from all levels, all disciplines, and all parts of the country to gather for on- and off-snow education, inspiration, and networking.
More than 100 incredibly talented snowsports instructors from across the country are packing their skis, snowboards, goggles, gloves, and guts and heading to Big Sky, Montana, next week for perhaps the biggest test of their teaching careers, a shot at making the 2024-28 PSIA-AASI National Team.

Every four years, tryouts are held to choose a new team to represent the association following a rigorous selection process.
