7 Questions with Alpine Team Candidate Keri Reid

Catch up with members of the PSIA-AASI National Team, and the candidates who have been invited to 2021 Team Selection, as they discuss how they are staying in shape this summer, making goals for next winter, and creating new education resources for the association.

This week we talk to PSIA-AASI Alpine Team Candidate Keri Reid, who is an Examiner, Training Squad Member, Eastern Team Member, and the Jackson Gore Ski + Ride School Manager at Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont.

How are you staying busy?

I am enjoying summer in Vermont to the fullest! I love puttering around my garden and have recently taken up mountain biking. Playing in the water is a favorite, and I bum waterski rides whenever friends with boats are kind enough to tow me around. The privilege of time has also allowed me to revive some long dormant skills (drawing and printmaking) and work on home improvement projects.

What is your go-to offseason workout?

Running, biking, HIIT, and strength training.

Big goals for next season?

Given the current circumstances, I would be grateful to have any semblance of normalcy. I dream of safely getting on snow with the Eastern membership and my staff at Okemo. In an ideal world, I will be sharpening my eye and my public speaking skills in preparation for the rescheduled 2021 Team Selection.

Which digital resource would you recommend for other members?

Though somewhat specific to resort leadership and their new recruits, I believe the Online Course for New Instructors is a not-to-be-missed resource. This free tool can be used to lure not-yet-converted friends into the instruction world.

What’s your favorite ski/snowboard movie?

I’m a sucker for Warren Miller (aren’t we all?), but the cinematography and soundtrack of Valhalla is irresistible.

What educational initiative or taskforce project are you working on right now?

An Eastern e-learning course titled, “Teaching Families & Diverse Groups,” that is set to launch this season.

Any shout out you would like to share?

To all the PSIA-AASI leadership and educators navigating these challenging yet hopeful times: the webinars and general online resources that have and continue to be developed are forging new ways for our community to learn and connect. I am inspired and hope my fellow members are too.
