Breaking News: Coaches Announced for 2020-2024 National Team
The new Coaches were announced today for the 2020-2024 National Team. These outstanding instructors will aid the current coaching staff in preparation for the PSIA-AASI Team Selection this April in Breckenridge, Colorado.
“Looking ahead, we’re excited to work with the 2020-24 national team to develop educational programing to help members excel in their careers as they share the sports they’re passionate about, and help others be better skiers and riders,” said PSIA-AASI Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Herrin.
He added that the entire coaching staff will support each other’s disciplines to meet guests’ needs for a fun and memorable experience, and that part of our goal as an organization is to build a strong community around snowsports education.
“We’ve transitioned to what we’re calling the ‘ONEteam’ approach – it’s focused on PSIA-AASI’s Three C’s initiative of communication, collaboration and consolidation– to help our members meet guests’ needs, to improve everyone’s experience,” said Herrin.
The new coaching staff will step into their active roles upon assisting with selecting the new 2020 Team. PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling, said the selection of the new coaches, and the ensuing transition process, ensures that the PSIA-AASI National Team is the “best of the best” ski and snowboard instructors who use strategic alignment to unite the association and help promote the organization’s educational programs.
“Coaches are recognized as leaders in the snowsports community, and foster synergy between members, schools, and divisions,” said PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling. “This coaching staff honors a successful team heritage, while looking to shape the future of snowsports and PSIA-AASI’s impact on growing participation.”
The new coaching staff includes:
- Jeb Boyd, current Team Manager, who will serve as the Head Coach of the 2020-2024 National Team
- Alpine Team Coach Michael Rogan
- Alpine Assistant and Development Coach Matt Boyd
- Snowboard Team Coach Eric Rolls
- Snowboard Assistant and Development Coach Tony Macri
- Cross Country Team Coach Emily Lovett
- Adaptive Team Coach Geoff Krill
- Telemark Team Coach Gregory Dixon.
Boyd said the number of candidates for the open coaching positions, and the overwhelming talent and professionalism of each instructor, convinced Herrin, himself and Schuiling to add the assistant alpine and snowboard coach positions.
“Although there were no initial plans to add coaching positions,” said Boyd, “the talent who applied was diverse in their skill set and proven Leaders who will drive professional development as we continue the strategic alignment process.”
Boyd added, “I am excited to work with this group and to see where we can go as ONEteam. Thank you to the current coaches who have gotten us to this point and welcome aboard to the new coaches who will continue to push us forward in April, 2020.”
Current Snowboard Team Coach Scott Anfang, who is also a former Snowboard Team member, offered his congratulations to the incoming coaching staff, and also expressed his optimism for the work the present can accomplish in the coming season.
“I’m stoked for Eric Rolls and the other coaches to move into their new positions and take the next teams in a different direction after selections this spring,” Anfang said. “No words can openly share how proud I feel in regards to what the 2016-2020 team accomplished in such a short time. The current team is in a great place moving into our 4th and final season of the term cycle.”
Meet the 2020-24 Coaches
Jeb Boyd, Head Coach: Current Team Manager Jeb Boyd will serve as the Head Coach of the 2020-24 PSIA-AASI National Team. Jeb first joined the team in 2004. He specializes in coach education, examiner training, technical skier improvement, and organizational management. Boyd also serves as the training advisor at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, New Hampshire.
Michael Rogan, Alpine Coach: Rogan is a long-standing part of the PSIA-AASI National Team, and comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience – part of which comes from working as a coach for the U.S. Ski Team. He has a deep passion for PSIA-AASI and helping people improve as skiers. He is an exceptional leader with a strong vision for the team.
Matt Boyd, Alpine Assistant and Development Coach: Boyd is a leader and contributor to PSIA-AASI’s initiatives in e-learning and the Learning Connection as it relates to strategic alignment. He has a long history with the national team, and his leadership skills transcend across disciplines.
Eric Rolls, Snowboard Coach: Rolls is a long-term veteran of the snowboard team. He brings an open mind to the table with his leadership background in snowsports from his years of experience as Training Manager for Park City in Utah. He has been integral in the development of PSIA-AASI’s Learning Connection Model, and will continue to serve the association as his leadership capabilities expand with coaching experience.
Tony Macri, Snowboard and Development Coach: Macri, a long-time veteran of the snowboard team, has a strong influence in freestyle genre of snowsports and brings a can-do/get it done approach to the team. His strength in freestyle will be valuable as PSIA-AASI continues to develop this niche for both snowboard and alpine.
Greg Dixon, Telemark Coach: Over the last two years, Dixon has grown as a leader within the telemark discipline as PSIA transitioned from one single Nordic Coach, to two separate coaches, telemark and cross country. His leadership, combined with his passion the sport and PSIA-AASI, will help him provide dedicated support to the telemark discipline.
Geoff Krill, Adaptive Coach: Krill has a strong vision for the future of adaptive snowsports and continues to serve as a leader for the adaptive snowsports industry. A fabulous athlete, he is a well-positioned voice for adaptive snowsports, and passionate about refining adaptive snowsports performance.
Emily Lovett, Cross Country Coach: With only one term under her belt, Lovett has established her expertise, and is now a leader within the cross country community. She understands not only the sport, but also the business side of cross country skiing. Her familiarity with encouraging participation will be a valuable asset as PSIA-AASI looks to support cross country moving forward.
